Originally a fortification protecting Cape Town, Chavonnes Battery Museum is based in the Clock Tower precinct. Built in 1726 by Dutch East India Company, the museum is home to collection of cannons, types of cannon balls and uniforms along with the battery, other war weapons and ancient walls of Table Mountain rock and granite, cemented with a mixture made by burning sea shells on Robben Island. Learn about the San and Khoi people, explorers and adventurers as well as slaves and settlers.
