Hong Kong Maritime Museum, based at its new location Central Pier Ferry 8, reflects the marine history and development of Hong Kong and Mainland China dating back to 2,000 years. Earlier it was divided into two galleries and highlighted the development of Chinese vessels from war boats and trading ships to Chinese junks in Ancient Gallery. While the Modern Gallery featured the evolution of Hong Kong's shipping industry and its development including the introduction of bulk carriers, container ships and tankers. After its relocation, the museum will occupy fifteen new permanent galleries.
