The Tokyo National Museum (or TNM) is not only the largest and oldest museum in Japan, but it also collects, houses and displays the world's largest collection of art works and antiquities from Japan as well as other Asian countries. This imperial-style building dates from 1939, which fuses Western and Japanese architecture. The museum holds over 100,000 pieces that include 87 Japanese National Treasure holdings and 610 Important Cultural Property holdings. It also conducts research and investigations concerning its collection of books and photographs related to fine art.
