Being an elaborate Hindu temple known as the starting point of the yearly Thaipusam pilgrimage to the Batu Caves, it is the oldest and richest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur. Situated at one corner of the city Chinatown, it was founded in year 1873 but a new structure was built in 1968. The temple provided a great place for worship for early Indians in Kuala Lumpur and at present as an important cultural and national heritage.
