A few kilometers outside of Melaka city center, along the coast of Ujong Pasir is the 28-acre Portuguese Settlement which is home to a small community of around 1,000 people, particularly the descendants of the Portuguese who conquered Melaka in 1511. The settlement started as a village outside the city, but is now flanked on three sides by other residential areas. This place is also known for its beautiful restaurants and its cultural performances.
