Founded in 1827, Sri Mariamman Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore. Situated at 244 South Bridge Road, it is a major tourist attraction in the city. It has been declared as a National Monument due to its architectural and historical significance. This temple is dedicated to Mariamman, the goddess well-known for her ability to cure epidemic illnesses. The annual fire-walking ceremony known as Timiti Festival where devotees walk on a bed of burning coal is also celebrated in this temple.
