Representing Korea’s past 1,200 years of history and tradition, Bongeunsa is a Buddhist temple built in 794 C.E. during the reign of Wonseong by the monk Yeon-hoe. Bongeunsa later became the head temple of the Seoul sect during the Joseon Dynasty, when the government supported Confucianism, while oppressing Buddhism. It is now a very popular tourist destination, offering various programs relating to traditional Korean Buddhist culture, in a variety of languages.
