Also known as the Church of St Saviour in Chora, this is one of the most beautiful surviving examples of a Byzantine church. It was originally built as part of a monastery complex outside the walls of Constantinople, but the church what now stands on the site is not the first church outside the walls on this site. Almost all of the interiors dates from 1312 and was funded by a famous poet, Theodore Metochites. Though, it’s not as large as other Byzantine churches in Istanbul, it makes up for the beauty of its interiors.
