Patara Ruins is one of the most exciting historical sites in Turkey and is still under excavation. Much of the city remains buried in sand, which has helped to preserve many of the ruins. Patara was once the setting for St. Paul's missionary work on his third missionary on route to Jerusalem, as well as the birthplace of St. Nicholas. A short walk from the ruins is one of the most beautiful sights of Turkey. Patara Beach, a pure sandy beach is renowned for its outstanding beauty.
