City: Sydney
Description:

This is a Colonial Georgian cottage built by John Macarthur in 1824 as a second house to form part of the Elizabeth Farm estate in western Sydney. Penelope Lucas, the former governess to John Macarthur's daughters, lived there for 9 years. Furnished to depict 19th century lifestyles, it is built of rendered sandstock brick in the Colonial Georgian style, and the kitchen block contains an excellent example of a domed brick oven.
