It was originally a Methodist church. It was completed in 1885 and was dedicated to Samuel Leigh, the first Methodist Minister in Parramatta who preached in the area from 1816. It's a collection of congregations of the Uniting Church in Australia and a major regional provider of community services in Parramatta.
