Situated on the north shore of Lyttelton Harbour, Lyttelton is a port town with a long history. Opened in 1877, it has been the main port of Christchurch area. Later, it became the Lyttelton Port Company in 1988. Today, Lyttelton Port is accessed by an impressive road tunnel. It has delightful cafes, restaurants, a local library and art and craft shops. Visitors can also swim at Corsair Bay and sail on Lyttelton Harbour.
