Originally used by mariners to set their chronometers. However, during and after World War II, this gun has marked 9PM every night since 1894. The gun is a 12-pound muzzle-loaded naval cannon, cast in England in 1816, and was brought to Stanley Park in 1894 by the Department of Marine and Fisheries.
