Description:

Named after the gray-feathered predatory bird, the blue heron, this magnificent park is mainly a nature refuge on Staten Island with various natural areas including meadows, kettle ponds, freshwater streams and marshes, and woodlands. In spring, the vernal pools throughout the park attract diversity of migrants, and in fall, habitat around Butterfly Pond attracts a number of migrating sparrows.
