Description:
The former estate of Arthur Von Briesen is now a beautiful, hilly park. A native to Germany, Von Briesen immigrated to the United States in 1858 at the age of 15, and after struggling hard for few years, he began to study law. He helped found the German Legal Aid Society, which provided free legal services to poor German immigrants in New York, in 1876. The entire park area, after his name, was opened to the public in 1949 and is comprised of over 10 acres of upland and 2.7 acres of land underwater.
