City: Aswan
Description:

Based near the Aga Khan Mausoleum, Monastery of St Simeon was originally dedicated to the 4th century local saint, Anba Handra. You can enjoy a camel ride to reach this site, since it is long distance to be travelled on foot. Though this site isn't excavated systematically, its lower levels were used to host religious functions. Take a look around the monastery and explore the remains of early Coptic paintings hung on the lower level walls, the room for three-hundred monks in the central keep and graffiti left by Muslim pilgrims who camped here in the last room on the right.
