Being Beijing's first large modern art gallery, it is home to contemporary and ancient paintings of China, along with calligraphy and other art works. National exhibitions for fine arts are held in the gallery, featuring oil paintings, cultural relics and sculptures. Moreover, a special place in the gallery is dedicated to artworks and collections of Huang Zhou, a prominent artist of China. The gallery hosts personal painting shows where artists get a platform to showcase their artworks and get exposed to public.
