Erected in the center of Merdeka Square, the National Monument is a 433ft tower symbolizing the fight for Indonesia. Popularly known as Monas, it was built based on the idea of Ir. Soekarno, who was the first president of Indonesia. The top of the monument topped by a flame covered with gold foil, symbolizes a never extinguished spirit of Indonesian people.
