The Idemitsu Museum of Arts contains the private collection of Idemitsu Savo, founder of the Idemitsu Kosan Co. and since its opening in 1966, it has earned a worldwide reputation for housing excellent ceramics, the Chinese portion of which is among the most extensive to be found in Japan. Objects on display include Japanese and Chinese art and artifacts, and most notable of which are the works of Zen monk Sengai. In addition, the museum holds more than 400 works of the French religious and expressionist painter Georges-Henri Rouault. Special exhibitions are held about six to seven times a year.
