Considered as the icon of Singapore, Merilion is a statue of mythical creature comprising the body of fish and head of the lion. Based at Merlion Park, adjacent to One Fullerton at the Marina Bay waterfront, it depicts the humble begginnings of Singapore as a fishing village. As recorded in the 'Malay Annals', the lion symbolizes the one spotted by Prince Sang Nila Utama when he re-discovered Singapura in 11 AD and the fish tail of the Merlion symbolises the ancient city of Temasek.
