Established in 1887, the National Museum of Singapore is the oldest museum in Singapore early when it was part of Straits Settlements. Housed in a national monument, it has permanent collections of Singapore history as well as its popular culture. Moreover, it also features number of temporary exhibitions which portray world history and culture. Being one of the four national museums in the country, it underwent a restoration period of over 3 years and re-opened in December 2006.
