City: Bangkok
Description:

Located at the end of Chinatown’s Yaowarat Road, Wat Traimit is a temple housing the world’s largest statue of Buddha. The statue, made of solid gold is 3 meters tall and weighs 5.5 tones. In the past, artisans crafted this statue in gold and disguised it from invading enemies by a covering of stucco and plaster. This is a 13th century Sukhothai style Buddha which had been brought to Bangkok by King Rama III. The Buddha is represented in the traditional pose of Bhumisparsha Mudra.
