Arkeoloji Müzesi or Archaeology Museum, housed in three buildings just inside the first court of Topkapi Palace is home to Greek and Roman artifacts. The museum owes its existence to Osman Hamdi Bey, a Turkish archaeologist, painter, curator and diplomat and houses around one million objects. Highlights include Alexander Sarcophagus, the statues of The Temple of Zeus from Bergama, cuneiform tablets collection from Bronze age period, the Lycian tomb and many more. There is also an exhibit 'Istanbul Through Ages' that features the origin and history of Istanbul through plans, maps and drawings.
