Yedikule Fortress or Castle of the Seven Towers was used as an Ottoman treasury and its towers were used to house prisoners. This fortress was built at the times of Byzantine Emperors Theodosius I and Theodosius II as the Golden Gate. The twin towers of the Golden Gate are among the seven towers of Yedikule Fortress. The seven towers have their own names such as Flag Tower, Young Osman Tower, Top Tower, Tower of the Treasury, Dungeon Tower, Armory Tower and Sultan Ahmet III Tower.
