Set in the University of Tasmania's campus, John Elliott Classics Museum started about 40 years ago by Professor John Elliott is rated as one of the best exhibits in Australia. The museum boasts fine examples of art and culture of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, Etruria, Greece and Rome. Highlights include fine examples of painted decoration, more than 100 Greek vases and around 500 ancient coins from the invention of coinage to the end of the Roman Empire.
