The Melbourne's Living Museum of the West is a community museum and Australia's first ecomuseum that focuses on the unique history, Aboriginal heritage, culture and environment of Melbourne's Western Region. Set up in 1984, this fascinating museum is best known for its outreach programme and close involvement with the community. The collection includes around 500 artifacts, 5,000 archived items and 10,000 negative frames. It also keeps 400 oral histories as well as printed transcriptions covering various topics, such as migration, the role of women and the meat industry.
