Description:

Built under Governor Macquarie and opened in 1818, it was the first purpose-built charitable institution in Australia, and is the oldest three-storey masonry building in Australia. In 1888 it was gazetted as a Psychiatric Hospital and it remained until the 1990s, when the site was turned over to the University of Western Sydney.
