Adjacent to the Belvedere gardens, the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna contains various rare and lesser-known exotic plants. Several smaller areas of the garden are dedicated to specific topics such as succulents, useful plants, plant genetics, vegetation types of Austria, alpine floras and various others. The garden features more than 9,000 plants species including Annonaceae, Bromeliaceae, Rubiaceae and Gesneriaceae.
