Built by Soviet Red Army in the middle of Vienna, the Soviet Victory Monument is a relic from World War II to commemorate those 17,000 soldiers who died in the course of the 'Battle for Vienna'. Its position on Schwartzenbergplatz was carefully selected by the Soviet Army in 1945. The monument was actually built by war prisoners and local workforce.
