The Museum started its operation in 1916 as the Riflemen Museum during World War I, and the current building that houses the museum was erected in the years from 1937 to 1940. The Museum exposition reveals Latvia's military political history with a special emphasis on the 20th century, the period when the Latvian people had to fight for their independence on two occasions.
