There is a statue of the Prince Johann Wilhelm II, Elector Palatine from 1690 to 1716, standing in front of the Town Hall and is considered among the most important baroque equestrian sculptures north of the Alps. Elector Johann Wilhelm II, affectionately known to his people as Jan Wellem, was mainly notable for his services to the city.
