Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg, based in the HafenCity quarter, is a private museum opened in 2008. The museum showcases the stories of the discoverers, conquerors, captains and seamen. The displays include around 26,000 ship models, 50,000 construction plans, over 2,000 films, 5,000 paintings and graphics, 1.5 million photos, 120,000 books and several nautical devices, military and maritime objects as well as historical uniforms.
