This is the largest Renaissance church north of the Alps and it took almost 14 years to complete the construction of the church built by Duke Wilhelm V, in response to Luther's call to the Catholic Church for reform. In the church crypt are the tombs of many members of Wittelsbach dynasty, including that of the 'mad king' Ludwig II.
