State Theater at Gärtnerplatz (Gärtnerplatztheater), Gärtnerplatz 3 (U-Bahn U1, U2, U7: Fraunhoferstraße). Closed until 2015 due to major construction works. The Gärtnerplatztheater is one of only three Bavarian state theaters and Munich's second opera house. It focuses mainly on opera, with occasional productions of operettas, musicals, and ballets. The opera house itself opened 1865 and was built in classicistic style.
