An enduring memorial to those who sacrificed their lives in World War I and World War II, the Northern Ireland War Memorial (also called NI War Memorial) was opened in 2007 in Talbot Street and replaced an earlier building called Memorial House. The purpose of the memorial is to commemorate the association of the USA Armed Forces with Northern Ireland in World War II. It contains the Home Front Exhibition and the first national memorial to the hundreds killed in the Belfast blitz.
