TheCarmelite Church is recognized as Igreja das Carmelitas in Portuguese. The Igreja de São João Evangelista belonged to the convent of the same name, of Carmelite nuns. It was established in 1657 moreover is a typical exemplar of the sacred architecture of the baroque and mannerist eras with golden woodworks.
