The Carlton Gardens are an outstanding example of Victorian era landscape design and varied European and Australian tree plantings, complimented with flower beds of annuals and shrubs. The gardens are now a World Heritage Site, located on the northeastern edge of the Central Business District in the suburb of Carlton. The highlights include the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne Museum, tennis courts, IMAX Cinema and a children's playground. Two small ornamental lakes adorn the southern section of the park.
