Based in Bronzeville, the DuSable Museum of African American History was founded by Dr. Margaret Burroughs and her husband, Charles Burroughs in 1961. This is the first independent museum of the nation dedicated to collection preservation and study of history and culture of Africans and Americans of the African descent. The collection highlights over 15,000 pieces from paintings to print works as well as sculptures and historic memorabilia.
