Nestled within the UCLA campus in Westwood, the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden is a seven-acre botanical garden and a living museum which features about 5,000 species in 225 families. The garden maintains one of the most important living botanical collections in the United States, including species of tropical and subtropical plants. The Garden was started in 1929, shortly after the University began classes in Westwood.
