Founded by Brian Wallace, an Australian traveler who came to China in 1984, Red Gate Gallery opened for public in 1991. It is Beijing's first privately owned contemporary art gallery which expresses contemporary artistic side of China. Opened in the 600 years old Ming dynasty, the founder encouraged numerous young Chinese artists prior to its opening. Having an objective of promoting the Chinese artists, the gallery is a platform to reflect the evolving cultural art scene of the country. Being home to permanent exhibits of some artists, it also showcases artworks of various emerging talents.
