An architectural feast for the eyes and a great example of the amazing craftsmanship, the Votivkirche (Votive Church) is one of the most important neo-Gothic religious architectural sites in the world, with hundreds of years of history. It's a typical Gothic style cathedral that was erected between 1855 and 1879 on the initiative of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian to designs by Heinrich von Ferstel. The church was intended to commemorate the survival of Emperor Franz Joseph from an assassination attempt made by Libényi in 1853.
