A Famosa or Porta de Santiago is one of the most valuable ruins built by the Portuguese centuries ago, and it is all that remains of this fortress still standing. This is one of the four main gates of the fortress and probably the best evidence of Portuguese occupation. For almost 150 years, this magnificent structure had protected the Portuguese position in Malacca, until it was taken by the Dutch.
