Officially known as the Cathedral Church of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Myeongdong Cathedral is the very first Roman Catholic parish church, as well as the first Gothic building ever built in Korea. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Seoul, Andrew Yeom Soo-jung, the highest Catholic prelate in the country. Unlike most Gothic structures, this cathedral was built with bricks instead of stones.
