Erected in the center of Bangkok, the Democracy Monument is a public monument. This monument was designed by Mew Aphaiwong, whose brother was a member of Phibun's regime. It was built to commemorate Thailand’s momentous transformation from absolute to constitutional monarchy. The centerpiece of the Monument represents a palm-leaf manuscript holding Thai Constitution of 1932. The Constitution is guarded by four wing-like structures which represent the branches of Thai armed forces – police, army, navy and air force.
