Located in Carlton Gardens, adjacent to the Royal Exhibition Building, this postmodern exhibition space explores life in Victoria, providing a grand sweep of Victoria's natural and cultural histories. This award-winning Melbourne Museum is a great mix of old-style object displays and themed interactive display areas. Major highlights of the museum include a skeleton of a blue whale, a living rainforest, the racehorse Phar Lap and an IMAX theater. Visitors can also take a close look at the bugs, from stick insects to funnel-web spiders. There are still loads to see, including dinosaurs and a great collection of gems and rocks.
