Opened in 1873 at the top of Ueno Hill, this large, magnificent park is among the Tokyo's oldest public parks, which is now home to a number of major museums, temples, galleries, shrines, historical monuments, a lake and a popular zoo. It is a favorite destination among Tokyo residents and within the park can be found some of the city's popular attractions including the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo National Museum and the Ueno Zoo. It also houses hundreds of cherry blossom trees, and a lotus pond.
