City: Cairo
Description:

Located near the El-Hussein Square, Al-Azhar Mosque is the first Fatimid monument in entire Egypt. Now being serving as a teaching institute, it is the oldest university in the world where its first lecture was carried out in 975 AD and is also regarded as the most prestigious in Muslim schools. Though thousands of students studied here once upon a time, now the lectures are carried out in an adjacent building and the mosque is used only for prayers.
