The Mosque of Amr ibn al-As was originally built in 642, as Cairo's first mosque, following the Arab conquest of Egypt. It was rebuilt in 673 by Mu'awiya followed by one more reconstruction in 1179 which was under the rule of Saladin. Apart from the Muslims visiting the mosque, it is also open daily for non-Muslims where only the prayer timings are exceptions for them. Due to the renovations there is nothing left in its original form, yet the Mosque has significant beauty and is considered as a great place for worship.
