Description:
Fort Wadsworth is one of the oldest military installations in the United States that divides New York Bay into Upper and Lower halves. Dating back to 1663, this historic fort was used during both the American Revolution and the war of 1812. It remained active until 1995, after it became part of Gateway National Recreation Area, and shortly after that, the last military tenant, the Navy, departed and officially turned Fort Wadsworth over to the Department of Interior.
