Regarded as Egypt's most important cultural stage, Cairo Opera house is home to much more than just the opera. Founded in 1869 as the Royal Opera House by Khedive Ismail, the original building was destroyed in a fire in 1971, and an entirely new one was built and opened in 1988. Today, it has two halls having a capacity of 1300 and 500 people, as well as an outdoor theatre, and there are virtual cultural performances every night.
